Five Paper is a “first-class set” with a “good breadth and availability of barristers” who are “highly efficient, friendly and dedicated to their clients.” Five Paper specialises in commercial and property law, operating through five practice teams: Commercial, Property, Employment, Business Immigration and Regulatory, and Family (matrimonial finance and property). Chambers and many of its members are ranked in both the Legal 500 and Chambers UK Bar in the areas of Social Housing, Commercial Litigation, Employment, and Business Immigration.

Five Paper wishes to recruit one or two pupils to commence 12-month pupillages in October 2020. Pupils will receive an award of £25,000, and guaranteed earnings in their second six-months of pupillage of £5,000.

Pupils will be supervised by four pupillage supervisors, and can expect to experience at least two of Chambers’ practice areas. Pupils will frequently undertake advocacy on their own account during second six, and can expect a wide variety and significant amount of work. All second six earnings are retained by the pupil in addition to their grant.

Candidates are expected to have at least a 2:1 degree unless the candidate displays exceptional personal achievement or motivation. Five Paper operates an anonymous and university-blind recruitment process. Candidates should evidence relevant experience of, or interest in Five Paper’s practice areas, intellectual ability and analytical skills, strong communication and advocacy skills, interpersonal skills, and compliance with Five Paper’s values.

How to apply
Chambers is not a member of the Pupillage Gateway, and applications for pupillage must be made on Five Paper’s application form. Candidates should refer to Five Paper’s website for further information on how and when to apply. Applications should be made by email to
