Fountain Court is a leading commercial set of barristers’ chambers in London with some 87 tenants, including 36 silks, specialising in commercial and other high quality civil work. We are seeking to recruit law and non-law graduates of the highest calibre for pupillage and eventually tenancy. We positively encourage applications from groups who are currently under-represented in Chambers such as women and those from a black or other ethnic minority background.

There is a broad range of other work in chambers, including energy and natural resources, employment, public law (especially in a commercial context) company, insolvency, sports, telecommunications, professional discipline and regulatory work, and commercial crime. There is also a substantial amount of international work, and Chambers has an annexe in Singapore.
A pupillage at Fountain Court offers top-quality training and very good financial support in a busy, friendly environment. A 12 month pupillage is split into four periods, with time spent between three different pupil supervisors. In the final period, you return to your first pupil supervisor.
Pupils will be called upon to do specific pieces of work for their pupil supervisors and for other members of chambers more widely. The first two months of pupillage are unassessed while the pupil finds his or her feet. In addition to working on papers (which always relate to real cases), a pupil can also expect to accompany his or her pupil supervisor to trials and appeals and, more frequently, to interlocutory hearings.
In selecting our pupils we will be looking to assess academic and intellectual abilities, skills in oral and written presentation, judgement, how well the candidate is likely to communicate with clients (both lay and professional), and an understanding of and interest in our work. Successful applicants tend to have a first-class degree, or at least some evidence of attainment to first-class level.
