Description
Spire Barristers – winners of the 2018 Regional Family Law Chambers of the Year at the nationally recognised LexisNexis Family Law awards and the only specialist Family and Public Law set on the North Eastern Circuit and in the North of England.

Our members are amongst the most respected and experienced in these areas of practice at the Bar. We are routinely recognised as a Leading Set in the Legal 500, with various individuals receiving recognition, together with individual entries in Chambers & Partners. In addition, our clerking team is one of the best, having been shortlisted for Clerking Team of the Year in the Family Law Awards 2016. Chambers was also shortlisted for Chambers of the Year in the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2018 as well as being shortlisted for Regional Chambers of the Year in the Family Law Awards 2018.

Further, chambers has a reputation for supporting and encouraging new entrants to the Bar, in particular by promoting and undertaking social mobility initiatives, which enable those applicants who might previously have been unable to commence a career as a barrister to do so.

It is against this background that chambers invites applications from those candidates who are to commence the BPTC in September 2019 for a 12-month pupillage commencing in September 2020.

During the BPTC year, the successful candidate will receive mentoring and support from chambers, will be invited to chambers events and will be encouraged to make contributions to chambers online Family and Court of Protection Newsletters.

On commencement of pupillage itself our pupils work with a wide range of practitioners, so that they can be assessed widely across chambers, whilst being allocated one overall pupil supervisor. The training and opportunities being offered are of the highest quality, which ensures that pupils may move seamlessly into tenancy with busy and successful practices; having been nurtured in a warm and welcoming chambers’ environment.

We recruit solely on merit and expect applicants to have performed well academically with at least a 2:1 at degree level. It is requirement that on completion of the BPTC that at least a Very Competent is achieved.

The successful candidate will have demonstrably good communication skills, a commitment to their development as an outstanding advocate as well as a commitment to the independent bar and in particular the Family and Public Law bar throughout Leeds, Yorkshire & the North Eastern Circuit. They will also have an ability to engage well with clients, members of chambers and the clerks.

Our pupils are remunerated in line with the Bar Council's policies.
