Cornwall Street Chambers is a leading set of barristers’ chambers with 53 barristers practicing across three offices in Birmingham, Oxford and Shrewsbury. We provide strength and experience across a wide range of legal disciplines with expertise in a number of specialist niche areas. We have a modern, forward-thinking and dynamic ethos whilst retaining pride in our heritage and our approachability.

We are offering up to two general common law pupillages starting on 1st October 2019, based in Birmingham. The principal focus will be tailored according to the preferences of the successful candidate.

During the latter part of the first six we ensure that pupils spend time with the more junior members of chambers before commencing work in their own right.

The current level of award for each pupil is £16000, made up of £8000 during first six and £8000 guaranteed earnings during the second six months.

Applications will be accepted before the deadline of 5 pm on 7th February 2019.

Applications are sought from those who can demonstrate:

1. A high level of academic ability, generally 2.1 or above but a 2.2 would be considered for an otherwise exceptional candidate.
2. Impressive written and oral communication skills.
3. A genuine desire and determination to work as a barrister in the provinces.
4. A capacity for hard work and the resilience to meet the demands of practice at the Bar.
5. An understanding of the challenges of developing a practice at the Bar.
6. An ability to work both alone under pressure and to contribute to a team.
