5RB is a leading set of media and entertainment barristers. We are seeking to recruit up to 2 pupils to start a 12 month pupillage with us commencing in October 2020.
Each pupillage will carry an award of £30,000 paid in four equal instalments during the 12 months.
5RB specialises in all areas of media and entertainment law (defamation, privacy, breach of confidence, data protection, copyright and associated rights, reporting restrictions, contempt of court and passing off, including all human rights aspects). In addition, chambers handles some professional negligence work, judicial review and sports regulation cases. Barristers act regularly in high-profile and ground-breaking cases in media law and write and contribute to the leading textbooks in our fields.
5RB's media work is a particular specialism, involving litigation, especially in defamation and privacy, for both claimants and defendants and advice to press, radio, television, book and electronic publishers.
A pupil at 5RB will spend 3 month periods with 4 different pupil supervisors. We endeavour to provide experience in all our practice areas.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate high academic achievement (usually at least a 2:1 degree). In addition we look for applicants with relevant experience (including mini-pupillages, not necessarily at 5RB) and who can demonstrate aptitude for, an interest in and commitment to our areas of work.
The following questions will form the Pupillage Application Questionnaire section
of the application form for this pupillage vacancy. These are included here to allow
you to prepare in advance.

- BC2(5RB2) Why do you want to join our chambers? In your answer, please give reasons for your choice of chambers and explain why you are interested in our areas of practice. (300 words)
