Members of Chambers are also credited for their work in many high-profile administrative and public law cases, civil liberties & human rights, consumer law, EU law, immigration, insurance & reinsurance, product liability, and public international law.
We are proud of our extensive and varied list of clients, which includes private individuals, private corporations, unions, leading insurers and local authorities. A number of our barristers are also appointed as counsel to the Attorney General's civil panel and act on behalf of the Government.
Two, 12 months guaranteed, grant and guaranteed earnings (£57,500), £35,000 grant and £22,500 guaranteed earnings (though it is likely you will exceed that sum). We also cover the cost of training courses required to be undertaken during pupillage. With agreement of chambers £5,000 of the grant may be drawn down during the Bar Professional Training Course.
Chambers recruits only two pupils each year and both have a strong chance of achieving tenancy. Each pupil has three pupil supervisors over the course of the year in order to ensure exposure to a wide range of Chambers’ work. During the first six months, you will be involved in all aspects of your supervisors’ work. This is the time in which you prepare for taking on your own caseload, so supervisors will make time to go through your work and offer constructive feedback. During the second six months we encourage you to start developing your own court practice in preparation for tenancy.
What we are looking for:
Due to the challenging nature of the work, applicants are generally expected to have a 2.1 or better at degree level. Our aim is to recruit pupils who we hope will, by June in the pupillage year, meet the high standards that are applied in the tenancy selection process. When selecting pupils we therefore look for evidence of academic ability, a strong motivation to succeed at the Bar, excellent presentational skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to build successful working relationships.
