Description
A vacancy has arisen to start pupillage at 6KBW College Hill in October 2020. Candidates for this position should apply in line with our standard application window for 2021 pupillage (see below). Candidates are welcome to apply for both this vacancy starting in 2020, and for pupillage starting in 2021; anyone wishing to be considered for both positions should make that clear on their application forms.
6KBW College Hill is an outstanding set in the fields of criminal and public law; we are currently shortlisted as Crime Set of the Year 2019 by Chambers and Partners. Eighteen of our members are QCs, eleven are or have been Treasury Counsel at the Old Bailey, and eleven are on the Attorney General’s panels of civil counsel. Our members have been involved in many of the highest profile and most difficult criminal cases of the last fifty years. We act for both the prosecution and defence, and for both sides in public law challenges. Tenants from our chambers regularly appear in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Divisional Court. Our members also appear in cases around the world, including recently in Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands and Gibraltar as well as before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Our main areas of work include general crime, fraud, corporate crime and investigations, extradition, inquests, public inquiries and a wide range of public and civil law work relating to the criminal justice system.

We are positive about the future of the criminal Bar and wish to select the brightest and the best candidates, regardless of their background. For that reason, we currently offer the highest pupillage award at the criminal Bar, of a guaranteed minimum of £40,000. This comprises £20,000 in the first six and a guaranteed income of £20,000 in the second six; anything earned in excess of this is kept by the pupil.

As a pupil at 6KBW College Hill you will be assigned to one pupil supervisor for each four-month period, though you should expect to work for a number of our members. You will also participate in our in-house pupillage training programme. In addition to sessions on the law and advocacy, the training programme includes a mock trial in front of a District Judge and a mock trial at the Old Bailey in front of a resident judge. We are proud of the success of our training programme and we aim to give our pupils the best possible grounding for a career at the modern Bar.

Nearly all of our pupils obtain tenancy with us or elsewhere; in recent years all of our pupils have been offered tenancy with us.

How to apply
An application form will be available to download from the 6KBW College Hill website (please click here). The application window will open on 25th November 2019. Applications must be received on or before 20th January 2020.
