Cornwall Street Barristers are a leading set of barristers’ chambers with 54 barristers practicing across three offices in Birmingham, Oxford and Shrewsbury. We provide strength and experience across a wide range of legal disciplines with expertise in a number of specialist niche areas. We have a modern, forward-thinking and dynamic ethos whilst retaining pride in our heritage and our approachability.
We are offering one common law pupillage, starting on 1st October 2020, based out of our Oxford office (See separate advert for our Birmingham office). The principal focus will be tailoring the pupillage to Criminal work with some Family and some Civil work.
During the latter part of the first six we ensure that pupils spend time with the more junior members of chambers before commencing work in their own right.
The current level of award for each pupil is £17 000, made up of £8,500 during first six and £8,500 guaranteed earnings during the second six months.
Applications will be accepted before the deadline of 11am on 7th February 2020.
Applications are sought from those who can demonstrate:
1. A high level of academic ability, generally 2.1 or above but a 2.2 would be considered for candidates with extenuating circumstances.
2. Impressive written and oral communication skills.
3. A genuine desire and determination to work as a barrister in the provinces.
4. A capacity for hard work and the resilience to meet the demands of practice at the Bar.
5. An understanding of the challenges of developing a practice at the Bar.
6. An ability to work both alone under pressure and to contribute to a team.
A detailed description of the application procedure and selection criteria can be found on our website. The Pupillage Policy also sets out what you can expect and what we expect during the pupillage year.
First round interviews will take place during the middle of March 2020 and second round interviews in early April 2020.
Application forms can be downloaded from our web site at http://www.cornwallstreet.co.uk/index.php/recruitment/pupillage and should be returned by post to James Farmer, Cornwall Street Barristers, Birmingham, B3 3BY or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
