Devon Chambers in Plymouth invites applications for a 12-month pupillage commencing in October 2020.

Devon Chambers is committed to ensuring that pupils receive training of the highest standard and can offer you a rewarding pupillage across all areas of Common Law, but with a focus on Criminal and Family Law. All applicants will be expected to have achieved at least an Upper Second Class degree and a Very Competent grade for the Bar Professional Training Course/Bar Vocational Course.

The training for pupillage will include:
• Regular feedback on their progress from their pupil supervisor and the pupillage committee
• Formal reviews every two months
• Regular advocacy exercises, oral and written
• The opportunity to undertake work with a variety of members specialising in different areas of law

The pupillage award will be £17,000 comprising of £8,500 in the first six months of pupillage and guaranteed earnings of £8,500 in the second six months of pupillage. Pupils can reasonably expect their earnings to exceed the minimum award in their second six.

The timetable for applications is likely to be as follows:
• Applications to be made by 4pm on14 February 2020
• Invitation for interview will be sent out via email by 6 March 2020
• First round interviews will be held on 21 March 2020
• Second round interviews including an advocacy exercise will be held on 4 April 2020
• Offer of pupillage to be made by 10 April 2020
• Pupillage to commence in October 2020
