Description
Smith Bowyer Clarke is a highly-specialised firm of barristers and solicitors practicing in National and European road transport law, encompassing aspects of regulatory, criminal, European and civil law. We appear in Public Inquiries, the Crown, Magistrates’ and County courts and the First-tier Tribunal at first instance and in appeals to the Upper Tribunal (AAC), the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. Our jurisdiction (almost) uniquely covers England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our clients range from FT100-listed multi-nationals and the biggest European Hauliers through to single-vehicle Operators. Applicants should demonstrate a real interest in our areas of practice and can identify the basic legislative scheme prior to interview. You should note that practice (and pupillage) in this area is highly paper-work intensive. Applicants will need to demonstrate both exceptional attention-to-detail skills and a highly developed intellectual agility, with a very practical approach to solving client problems. You will demonstrate a willingness to rise to challenges outside of your present experience. Pupils will be expected to travel throughout the country. Because some European travel is likely you must hold a full current passport; you will also hold a full current UK Drivers’ Licence. We aim to recruit pupils with a genuine interest in building a career with us in this interesting (we think!), rarified and esoteric area of work. Both pupillages will be Midlands-based.
