3 Temple Gardens - 12 Months - October 2022
3TG is a well-established and highly ‘ranked’ Criminal Law Chambers in Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500 with over 65 practising Members. We have a strong and recognised reputation at the Criminal Bar. Chambers is committed to access to the Bar and has offered pupillages every year since Chambers’ creation in the 1960s. We have teams within Chambers who also practice in Extradition and Regulatory Law and a number of individual Members with a more varied practise.
Chambers prides itself on inclusivity and robust Equality and Diversity policies. Our only mandatory criterion for Candidates is that they have completed a degree or degree equivalent regardless of when or where it was completed. We encourage applications from any Candidate who is determined to succeed at the Criminal Bar regardless of their background.
Whilst we are looking for Candidates who can demonstrate strong academic ability this certainly is not our only assessment criterion. Our full criteria can be accessed through the links on our website (together with much more information about pupillage at 3TG itself and our comprehensive Pupillage Policy) but in summary at the initial application stage we are also looking for evidence of legal experience, advocacy experience, achievements in a variety of areas of work and life together with a demonstration of realistic insight into, and a genuine passion for, life at the Criminal Bar.
There is no expectation that Candidates applying to 3TG will have undertaken a mini-pupillage with us.
3TG recruits Pupils for 12 months pupillages; however, there is a 6-month period of probationary tenancy thereafter before a full application for tenancy is invited. Probationary tenancy is not a guarantee of tenancy, however, of those pupils who have applied for tenancy in the last 3 years 100% have been accepted as tenants.
Within the 12 months of pupillage, Pupils will be supervised by 3 different supervisors. In addition, they will have a Junior Tenant mentor who will provide support throughout. Pupils can expect to be given a vast range of learning opportunities with each supervisor and all feedback is given in writing to allow you to properly reflect on each experience. In addition, you will complete the Chambers in-house advocacy training programme in your first six months which will follow the course of a single case from its very first appearance to its conclusion.
We are aiming to recruit 2 pupils to commence in October 2022. Our award is £20000 (dividing between a £10000 guaranteed income in the first six and £10000 guaranteed earnings in the second six). We also pay all travel expenses for pupils travelling to Court outside of TFL zone 6. Pupils (and Probationary Tenants) do not pay clerks fees or any Chambers rent.
We aim to be as flexible as possible in the interview process and are happy to consider video interviews as well as in-person interviews should that prove more convenient for any Candidate successful in the initial application process.
