Becket Chambers - 12 months - October 2021
Becket Chambers offers an attractive combination of high quality work and good quality of life, providing the opportunity to live and work in attractive areas of Kent or Sussex.
No pupil at Becket Chambers has ever failed to earn significantly more than the basic pupillage award.
Although the pupillage award is in line with Bar Council minimum requirements, in recent years pupils have earned, in their second six (in addition to the award for the first six) between £23,000 and £51,000. This means that during pupillage, pupils have earned at least £29,000, and up to £58,000 recently. If offered a tenancy, earnings are expected to increase further still.
There is scope for significant earnings to rival many London sets, but with a more pleasant and enjoyable pace of life at Becket Chambers.
We are a busy, friendly common law set covering a full range of areas of law, but specialising in Family and Civil law in Kent, Sussex and the South East. In particular, we cover:
• General Common Law: including contract disputes, property matters, landlord and tenant and personal injury
• Family: All aspects including public and private Law children cases, injunctions, parental removal and abduction, divorce and financial remedies
We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in Public law family work as we are looking to expand our Public law team to take advantage of the excess of work we are being offered in this area.
Please see our websites http://becket-chambers.co.uk/, http://direct2barrister.co.uk/ and http://becketmediation.co.uk/ for detailed information about our barristers and practice areas.
Pupils are recruited in the expectation of being offered tenancy. In the last five years all our pupils have been offered a tenancy, and all have accepted.
Pupils are initially expected to undertake work in all areas of law in which Chambers operates. There is real opportunity to maintain a general common law practice or specialise, depending on the wishes of the pupil.
