Description
Guildford Chambers has dedicated civil and family teams and is uniquely positioned to provide competitive and effective advocacy on behalf of individuals and businesses in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, London and the South East. We are currently offering a pupillage within each team.

Description

The Family Pupillage is for twelve months, subject to a continuous review of progress. The pupil will be allocated to a specific supervisor and will be rotated to other members to ensure exposure to the various areas of law covered by Guildford Chambers.

Towards the end of the first six, we will ensure that the pupil has spent some time with junior members of chambers to prepare them for the type of work they will typically undertake during their second-six.

During second six, pupils will be kept busy, undertaking their own cases to gain the relevant experience required to complete pupillage successfully. Pupils typically appear in the lower courts and receive instructions to prepare written work.

Typically, the successful family applicant will gain experience in a range of family work, including private children and care, financial remedies, TOLATA related matters and domestic abuse work.

Whilst the financial award conforms to the required minimum, pupils can expect to earn within the range £20,000-£35,000 during their pupillage.

The Candidate

Pupillage candidates will usually have a First Class or good Upper Second degree or will have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Law to the same standard. Candidates will usually have been awarded an Outstanding or Very Competent grade on the bar course.

Guildford Chambers is interested in well-rounded candidates from any background. We look for highly motivated individuals with outstanding intellectual ability, combined with a practical approach, sound judgment, an ability to develop good client relationships and the potential to become excellent advocates.

Though Guildford Chambers actively seeks to recruit tenants from its pupils, tenancy is not guaranteed. We do however look for applicants who show commitment to a future in Chambers should they be successful.
