Chavasse Court Chambers has an excellent reputation as a busy and strong set of chambers with formidable advocacy experience in defending and prosecuting serious crime. We have outstanding clerks who have built long standing working relationships with many local solicitors and beyond.
Pupils will accordingly be given the platform to forge a busy and successful practice at the Criminal Bar. We are known for our down to earth approach with clients and solicitors.
We are seeking a well-rounded candidate with excellent interpersonal and advocacy skills. We encourage applications from any candidate who is determined to succeed at the Criminal Bar regardless of their background. Applications will be judged on merit.
Pupillage is offered with a view to tenancy and therefore significant time and commitment is invested in pupils to ensure they are supported, promoted and encouraged to succeed.
The pupillage award will take the form of a grant for the first six months of pupillage, which meets the minimum award as specified annually by the Bar Council (including travel expenses from chambers to court) and guaranteed earnings during the second six months. Historically most pupils usually exceed the guaranteed earnings level.

6. The deadline for applications will follow that set down in the Pupillage Gateway, opening at 11am on Monday 5th January and closing at 2pm on Monday 9th February 2022.
7. Chambers has two rounds of interviews, which will be held in March/April 2022. The second round of interviews will include an advocacy exercise. All candidates will be assessed against agreed selection criteria.
8. Offers will be made on 6th May 2022.
9. Applications are first considered and graded to enable a shortlist to be drawn up. The selection of the shortlist is decided at a meeting of those who have graded the applications, including the Head of Pupillage (who also attends the final interviews), and is monitored for
compliance with our Equality & Diversity code.
10. The final interviews are conducted by a panel, consisting of a number of Members of Chambers of varying seniority in accordance with the timetable established by the Pupillage Gateway Scheme. All candidates will be assessed against the agreed selection criteria and in comparison with other applicants.
