Description
4-5 Gray’s Inn Square is a long-established and leading public and commercial law chambers. Our core areas of law are: public, commercial, planning & property, dispute resolution, international, regulatory & disciplinary and sports.

Chambers committed to the provision of creative and practical legal advice responsive to the commercial needs of our clients. We have a reputation for excellence in all of our practice areas. Our barristers are backed up by a first class clerking and business management team in a supportive and collegiate environment.

Pupils will be appointed a pupillage coordinator, who will have overall responsibility for the structure and coordination of their pupillage.
Pupil supervisors will be allocated, in consultation with the pupillage coordinator, over the course of the year. We aim to provide every pupil with experience of Chambers’ major areas of work and pupils will spend time with at least three supervisors. In their first six months, pupils work with their pupil supervisor(s) (and possibly other members of Chambers). In their second six, they continue to work with their supervisor(s) but will also undertake their own work, including court work. Earnings received in the second six are retained in addition to the pupillage award.

There is no limit to the number of tenancies offered each year. Pupils are not in competition with each other and offers of tenancy will be made solely on individual merit.

Chambers operates an Equal Opportunities policy and adheres to the Equality and Diversity Code for the Bar.

How to apply
Chambers is not a member of the Pupillage Gateway. Applications for a pupillage commencing October 2023 will open at 11am on 5 January 2022 and will close at 2pm on 9 February 2022. Applications must be made via the application form available at www.4-5.co.uk/join-us/pupillage by emailing to clerks@4-5.co.uk or by post and marked “Pupillage Application”. All applications will be assessed by at least two members of chambers and candidates may be invited to an interview where they will be expected to discuss a legal problem, which will be provided to them 30 minutes before the interview. The exercise will require legal knowledge but no more than that which is to be expected of applicants at this stage of their legal career, and will not require knowledge of chambers’ specialist areas.
